ASSOCIATION OF PHILIPPINE PHYSICIANS IN AMERICA
Established in Chicago in 1972, the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA) was originally named the Association of Philippine Practicing Physicians in America. However, there were many members with Medical Doctorates who were no longer practicing, so the organization amended to drop the word “Practicing” from its name. Its goal includes establishing continuing education program for physicians, providing aid for the education of physicians and medical students, supporting and stimulating medical research, and rendering free medical care for indigent people.
APPA is composed of several committees: Awards, Continuing Medical Education, Foreign Medical Graduates, Medico-Legal Aid, Philippine Medical Aid Program, Political Action, and Public Relations.
These activities shall be consistent with the accreditation standards of the ACCME and shall be directed toward increasing knowledge, improving clinical skills, and professional performance of physicians, and improving the quality of care provided for patients.
All Continuing Medical Education activities shall be planned by determining the need for the activities and by setting educational objectives.
All aspects of the activities and of program planning that shall be free of commercial influence.
